United Parcel Service (UPS)

United Parcel Service Inc., commonly referred to as UPS, is a package delivery company. Headquartered in Sandy Springs, Georgia, United States, UPS delivers more than 15 million packages a day to 6.1 million customers in more than 200 countries and territories around the world.

A large United Parcel Service sorting facility is located partly in Hodgkins and partly in nearby Willow Springs on the outskirts of Chicago. UPS employs over 9,000 people, and is the largest package sorting center in the world. The location of the UPS is typical of many major companies who require ease of transportation to locations across the United States.

With more than 100 years of service, UPS knows a thing or two about responsible business practices. In the early 20th century, UPS pioneered the hub and spoke model for package delivery operations. In this century, UPS continues its innovative tradition with the development of package flow technologies, paperless invoices for international shipments, and pioneering fuel conservation strategies, to name a few. The end result of all these technology innovations is stellar customer service and a reduced environmental impact.

Much of UPS's environmental efforts are focused on improving efficiency, specifically on reducing miles flown and driven and using the most fuel efficient mode of transportation.
