The creation of the new headquarters in downtown Detroit was an investment in our employees and an investment in our community that has already begun to generate a return.

Compuware Corporation
As a fast-growing provider of software and professional services, Compuware sought to improve productivity, decrease administrative expense, and create more intellectual and operational synergy for the company. In 2000 the firm addressed these goals by aiming to consolidate its nine separate facilities into one unlikely campus location: downtown Detroit. , Despite the difficult environment in the technology industry, Compuware completed the $350 million headquarters building in mid-2003 and paid for the building in cash.

Today the 1,000,000 square-foot Compuware Headquarters serves its customers, its employees, its community, and contributes to the Detroit skyline.

Compuware’s decision to relocate over 4,000 employees to the new facility was an investment in both its employees and the community. The facility features childcare for 400 children, a fitness center, and a cafeteria. The facility is also now the anchor of one of the area’s most important retail clusters: including a Hard Rock Café, Borders Books and Music, Kinko’s, and several other services not seen in downtown Detroit since the 1970s.

The location, at the corner of Woodward Avenue and Monroe Street, was once the retail hub of Detroit. The J.L. Hudson Company, one of the city’s premier department stores which had been located in the area, closed in the 1980s.

"Retail, from day 1, was an important component of our strategy," says Denise Knobblock, Executive Vice President for Administration at Compuware. "Hudson’s is still sorely missed in the city. We wanted to bring back some of the things that it used to provide."
