Timberland's longstanding commitment to community took on greater intensity
in 1989 with a donation of 50 pairs of boots to City Year,
a fledging youth service corps in Boston. Inspired by the
diverse young leader's passion and idealism, the partnership
between Timberland and City Year – a model for the national
youth service program, Americorps – has expanded to
13 regions across the country and a pilot program in South
Africa.
City Year's 13th domestic site and only rural corps
is based in Timberland's global headquarters in Stratham,
New Hampshire and further evolves the integration of this
unique public private partnership. Timberland's commitment
to City Year includes over $10 million of resources, strategic
management collaboration, mentorship programs between employees
and corps, an annual donation of over 15,000 pieces of apparel,
gear and footwear as official uniform sponsor and thousands
of hours of service in communities around the world.
City Year inspired and supports Timberland's award-winning
Path of Service program. The Path of Service gives employees
40 hours of paid time to invest in their community through
service. To date, employees have logged over 200,000 hours
of service through individual volunteer or team efforts, the
6-month Service Sabbatical program, Earth Day in the United States and
Asia and the Annual Global Serv-a-palooza. Serv-a-palooza
‘02 will unite close to 2,000 employees in service in
19 countries around the world.
City Year and Timberland share a passion for the ethic of
service and in the belief that everyone has the opportunity
and obligation to contribute to the strength and vitality
of their community. As Timberland has a longstanding commitment
to support the young leaders of City Year in creative and
powerful ways.
