BP’s support for the Leader Awards goes beyond the fact that we have significant business activities in the Chicago area. We don’t just do business here, we live here. The real driver for our support comes from our employees, who want to help support and encourage those individuals and groups that are striving to create a better place to live. The Leader Awards program is about recognizing organizations and programs that can make a difference, and about helping them to achieve their goals. |

In 1994, the Leaders Awards were created
in Chicagoland to identify and promote exceptional community
service and education programs in accord with its own business
objectives, such as securing local markets. In 2001, BP awarded
a total of $500,000 to nine community and education organizations
in the Chicago area for efforts that successfully address community
and economic development, academic achievement, the environment,
science and technology, and youth. BP business executives, grantmakers,
educators, nonprofit, and civic leaders participate in a Blue
Ribbon panel that selects award recipients. Applications are
evaluated on identified need, the implementation of constructive
solutions, the engagement of BP employees in the programs, and
the potential for long-term progress. The Leaders Awards have
been a way for BP employees to effectively engage with community
leaders in making a sustainable, positive impact in local areas.
At the same time, they allow BP to strategically align its core
brand attributes performance, progressive, innovative,
and green with its business operation and community investment.
